Our site is optimized for Microsoft-based browser technologies. Netscape and other web browsers do not currently support these Microsoft technologies, and there are known incompatibility issues. It is required that you utilize Microsoft's Internet Explorer (version 6.x or greater) to access our web-based workflow system.

The workstations are compatible with a large number of popular browsers, including Firefox, Mozilla, Opera and Netscape. If you encounter problems while trying to load the ProRealTime workstation with any of these browsers, please follow the Java configuration procedure listed here.

Any modern browser will work. NT Challenge/Response (NTLM) authentication only works with MSIE, but Basic authentication works with any browser. (See Security Considerations for more information on Basic and NTLM authentication methods.) Some older versions of Lynx might have trouble with the graphical elements, particularly the buttons. If you encounter this problem, you'll have to upgrade to a newer version of Lynx, switch to HTML-style buttons, or use a different browser.

Yes. It does not matter which browser you use, as long as Internet Explorer is INSTALLED. It does NOT have to be the default web browser. You should always have the latest Internet Explorer installed on your computer even if you don't use it as your default browser (because many software developers use some of it's files to interact with the internet)

No. Netscape Internet Service can be used with any standard web browser, whether it's the Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or another browser. With our Netscape Accelerated Plan we recommend that you use Internet Explorer version 5.0 or higher or Netscape Communicator 7.0 or higher for the best results. Back to the top

Opera employs some very aggressive caching and seems to ignore all the no-cache directives sent to it. As a result changes you make may not be immediately visible in opera. They will generally show up after a period of time when Opera decides to refresh the page from the server instead of the local cache. Rest assured the page has been changed and will display correctly in all other browser (which constitutes 98% of all browsers out there).

Yes. In Opera, go to preferences and choose File types. Look for the MIME-type 'application/x-bittorrent' which shoud be linked with the 'torrent' extention. If you can't find this, create it. Highlight this and click 'edit'. Now you get a window were you can choose what program should start when you click a torrent, or whatever other action you want (thanks grmph). You must re-start Opera for changes to take effect! (thanks eddan).

Opera has excellent support for ECMAscript (standardised Javascript), CSS, and HTML, the key languages combined by authors to create dynamic pages, so it is indeed possible for Opera to display dynamic content within a document. There are some limitations however; Unlike some current desktop browsers, Opera 5 cannot usually alter the structure of a Web page once it has been drawn.

Opera allows you to specify a different proxy server to be used for each protocol. Each one can be configured or disabled independently, and any URL you wish to access directly whilst a proxy is enabled can be added to an Exceptions list. Connections to Gopher and WAIS services can only be made via a proxy server.

The Netscape browser does not support some of the coding, known as Cascading Style Sheets or CSS, used to design our new site. We are investigating a fix. One solution is to switch browsers. The new versions of Netscape (>6.0) doesn't work with our website. You will receive an error message "Invalid Referrer Or Relay Response URL". Please either use an older version of Netscape or Internet Explorer to place your order.

The navigator object contains strings which specify the browser and version; however, this is in general not very genuine. Mozilla (and therefore Netscape 6+) allows this to be freely set, and Opera and IE allow it to be modified. There are also at least 25 other javascript capable browsers with their own strings here. Generally though, you don't need to identify which browser is being used. There are alternative techniques, but which one you choose depends on why you want to redirect browsers.

the top of the browser go to "Options", then "Network Preferences". Select the "Cache" tab. Click on "Clear Memory Cache Now" and on "Clear Disk Cache Now". Close the browser and reopen. If you wish to make an anonymous FTP transfer, simply use the following format "ftp://<site address>" for the 'location' box. For non-anonymous FTP transfers, use the format "ftp://<username>@<site address>" and the browser will prompt you for your password. We take advantage of special features only available in the Microsoft Internet Explorer browser (Version 5.5 or higher). These features are not supported by Firefox / Mozilla.

Applications using DOI names can be constructed on a web site with full functionality behind the scenes. For some applications, this may require additional functionality such as that supplied in the Handle System. DOI names are URIs (URNs) not URLs: they are names, not locations. Most web browsers support locations (URLs) but have limited functionality for names, though this is expected to improve substantially in the near future. However, DOI names are useable with browsers immediately.

Our recommended browser is normally configured to use scripting when it is installed, and this is required for full performance of PLANTS. However, you may have set your security settings or firewall software to disable scripting. For example, in Microsoft Internet Explorer, setting your security level to "High" (Tools> Internet Options…> Security) will disable scripting.
