LDR brachytherapy is uses iodine-125 and palladium-103 stored in titanium cases usually referred to as brachytherapy seeds. As the name permanent brachytherapy suggest, the seeds are permanently left inside the prostate gland. Over the course of their radioactive lives, the seeds will continuously emit low levels of radiation.

Low-dose Aspirin is 81 mg of ASA (common brand name is Asaphen). The current evidence suggests that it improves endometrial blood flow so that a better endometrial lining develops. The low-dose Aspirin is taken once daily starting with down-regulation depending upon the protocol. It does not matter what time of day it is taken and can be taken with food. Continue taking the low-dose aspirin until the pregnancy test, which confirms whether implantation has taken place.

Accutane is a medication used to treat severe nodular acne. It is a medication of last resort, recommended for use only after conventional treatments have been tried and have failed. Accutane is used to treat the most severe form of acne (nodular acne) that cannot be cleared up by any other acne treatments, including antibiotics. In severe nodular acne, many red, swollen, tender lumps form in the skin. These can be the size of pencil erasers or larger.

The FDA ordered changes to be made in the Accutane label. These changes include stronger language about the risks associated with Accutane. Accutane is also being investigated by Congress. Lawsuits have been filed by some of the families of children who committed suicide while taking Accutane.

Long-standing GERD can lead to damage of the esophagus. This damage usually consists of breaks in the lining of the esophagus. In some cases ulcers can develop. In some patients, such damage can result in scarring and narrowing of the esophagus, making swallowing painful or difficult. A condition called Barrett's esophagus is thought to result from long-standing GERD in some patients. Barrett's esophagus is a risk factor for the development of esophageal cancer.

Topical therapy results in such minimal levels of medication in the bloodstream, if any, that there is virtually no risk of systemic side effects except allergic reactions. Possible side effects associated with oral antibiotic therapy include upset stomach, sensitivity to sun exposure, tooth discoloration, diarrhea, allergic reactions and vaginal yeast infections.

There are side effects to these medications but usually they are not long term. Most of them are somewhat bothersome but very few of them are dangerous. There are more problems with untreated emotional problems than problems from side effects.

Low-Dose Spiral Screening CT is designed to replace the chest x-ray in screening asymptomatic patients for pulmonary nodules. The low-dose technique is ideal to evaluate the lung parenchyma for nodules, but is not intended to screen for abnormalities elsewhere in the chest, such as the aorta, heart, lymph nodes, or bones. Like screening mammography, it is important to minimize the amount of radiation exposure in asymptomatic patients. No intravenous contrast is used.

The radiation from a low-dose screening CT exam is very minimal and is approximately equal to that received from a standard chest x-ray or from flying in a commercial jet across the country. What does the procedure involve? On the day of the exam after registering at the front desk, the patient will be asked to complete a brief lung cancer risk factor questionnaire. Then, the patient lies down on the Spiral CT scanner table and is positioned for the exam by the technologist.
