My 6 year old went through a few weeks of vision therapy to improve her focusing (she was seeing double if anything was closer than 10-12" to her face). In a short time, she made great progress and can almost focus on the end of her nose. (I never thought I would be happy my child could look cross-eyed!) Glasses would not have helped her, but vision therapy cured her.
