RatDVD uses a video codec called XEB. This codec is the result from an experimental project I did with some fellows and that does not use any XviD, x.264, etc. code although by the very nature of it contains routines which is similar in function and even to a small extend in output to what you'll find out there - obviously I didn't reinvent video-encoding. We recomend a portable Hard Drive to store your AVI files. The advantage to working with your files from the portable HD is that they are all on one source. Another option is to store AVI files on a MiniDV tape. The MiniDV tape will hold up to 1 hour of Video, but you need equipment to access your files from the tape. You might opt to back up your entire collection of media, including the AVI files to a portable hard drive.

H.263 is a video codec designed by the ITU-T as a low-bitrate encoding solution for videoconferencing. Q.004 I do not find the appropriate FPS setting with the 3gp Nokia/NEC/Siemens format using the H.263 video codec. Most of the clips I need to encode are either 25fps or 29.97fps. We are not using the XING codec and also not the LAME codec. Both are codecs for a PC environment. The codec in the Archos Jukebox Multimedia is an implementation of the Frauenhofer IIS codec.
