Black bear sightings on the Daniel Boone National Forest and throughout eastern Kentucky are increasing. The bears are expanding their range into Kentucky from the neighboring states of Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. Black bears are typically shy and prefer to avoid conflicts with dogs and humans. As with any wild animal, however, take precautions and never approach a black bear. When camping, store food and garbage away from your campsite in areas that are not accessible to bears.
