The DSL modem is an external device that connects to your computer's network interface card (NIC) via a standard 10BaseT cable. Yes, but CCI Net will not provide network technical support. CCI Net will only provide technical support for the DSL line and the primary PC on which it was installed.

In order to use the VTel DSL Service with your computer you will need to install a 10BaseT network adapter (also known as an Ethernet card). Once you have installed the adapter you will simply connect it to the DSL Modem using a 10BaseT cable (provided with your modem). Your DSL Modem connects to the existing phone jack in your house and you are ready to go!

Usually you do need line of sight, especially the further away you are from one of our service points. But our signal can pass through various types of buildings and obstructions, again (depending on your distance from a TXOL Wireless/DSL network antenna), so you may be able to get service even if you can't see the antenna.

On a cable network, every computer in the neighborhood can listen to all messages on the local network using readily available "sniffer" software. With TXOL Wireless/DSL, each wireless modem receives and passes its associated Ethernet card's data and not the entire networks. Another area of concern with cable networks is that if you have turned on "file sharing", other computers in your neighborhood can possibly access your files and programs.

A DSL Modem is not a true modem (which stands for Modulator/DEModulator). It is actually a state-of-the-art all-digital device that communicates using 10BaseT network protocols and provides an "always on" connection to your ISP (Internet Service Provider). What this means is that you will be ready to "surf" the net as soon as you turn on your computer. It does not require an additional phone line, and you can use the Internet while talking on the phone.

Beginning in March 19, 2004, the Actiontec GT701-wg modem will be Qwest's replacement for the Actiontec 1524 which has been discontinued by the manufacturer. Built-in 802.11 b/g wireless on board. No need for an expansion card as in the 1524. All Qwest DSL users receive a wireless networking product with the GT-701-wg. Wireless cards for the PC's? are not included with the GT701-wg. End users will have to purchase a wireless card for each PC to be connected to the GT701-wg via wireless.

Sure, you could do that, but it's not a good idea for several reasons. First, a vast majority of ISPs won't let you legally use a residential cable modem or a DSL line to host a public server. You would have to get a more expensive business package. Second, ADSL and cable lines usually have lower upstream bandwidth than downstream bandwidth, so your site may appear to be sluggish under heavy traffic. Third, DSL and cable lines have a much lower reliability than dedicated T1 or better lines.

Probably. Any wireless receiver supporting the industry standard 802.11b or 802.11g protocols should work. However, in rare cases, we have found wireless receivers which had compatibility issues with the computer upon which it was installed.

Previously, we suggested that people use Mac modem cables; however, it has come to our attention that there is no one standard Mac modem cable. Since correct modem operation on a NeXT depends upon a correctly wired modem cable, buying a Mac cable is not a good idea. Some Mac cables do not allow dial-in and no Mac cable allows the use of hardware flow control. For these reasons, we are recommending that only cables that meet NeXT specifications be used.

Cell phones and 900MHz cordless phones will have no impact on TXOL Wireless/DSL service because they operate on a different frequency. Any device such as a phone, or baby monitor that operates at 2.4GHz may cause interference, but not to the extent that you would notice.

If you plan on connecting only one computer to your DSL connection, a DSL modem will simplify the installation procedure. Use a DSL router connected to an Ethernet switch or an Ethernet hub. Ethernet switches and hubs are often called network switches and hubs. Click here for an example. Use a DSL modem connected to a Cable/DSL router. Cable/DSL routers are basically Ethernet switches (or wireless gateways) with routing functionality built-in, but still lacking an actual ADSL port.

Xecunet DSL provides high-speed internet access directly to you over your telephone line, whereas cable modem offers high-speed internet access over a cable television line which means the bandwidth would be shared with everyone in the local loop. This then means that cable-modem access may slow down if there are too many people using it.
