We do not give out shell accounts by default for security and resource usage reasons. Additionally (and for similar reasons) we like to personally set up MySQL databases only for customers who request them. If you'd like to put in a request, contact customer support for more information. Additionally, remember that only Domain and Super accounts can use CGI, MySQL, PHP, etc.

To reach your RadixNet shell account, telnet to saltmine.radix.net and then log in with your username and password.

You need to send a support request using the 'Request MySQL Database Creation' link on the Customer Help page. You will need to include 4 items in this request. 1- the name you want for your database. 2- the username you want for the database. 3- the password for the database. 4- the ip address for your site. We will create the database for you. This problem occurs when you create a new user in your control panel other than an 'email only' user.

MySQL uses its own usercode/password system - it doesn't rely on the normal usercode/password unix system used by telnet/ssh. So if you'd like to use MySQL as well, first ask the sysadmin to set you up a MySQL account and a database (or databases). This account will have a username/password separate from the username/password you log in with. You need to specify the name(s) of the database(s) you want creating when requesting your MySQL account from the sysadmin.

We are now allowing MySQL databases again. To create yourself a database, run the "mysqlme" located in "/usr/local/bin/". The program will create a MySQL user entry for your userid and then create a database for you with the name of your userid. You can have more than one database by specifying a database name with the "-db dbname" option. A database will then be created called "userid_dbname".
