Put the rope into a net or mesh bag. If you don't have a mesh bag, you can reduce tangling of your rope by doubling it and then chaining it beginning at the center and working out towards the ends. Put the bag of rope into a bathtub of soapy water and dance around on it. OR put the bag of rope into a washing machine and wash on Delicate cycle. Depends on season and snowpack. Many north-bound hikers carry an ice axe starting at the Mexican border to provide an extra margin of safety on high steep snow slopes in early season - this assumes you are already qualified in the technique of self-arrest. To cut a rope yourself: mark a line at the cut location, then wrap a piece of electrician's tape securely around the rope at both sides of the line, allowing about 3/8" of exposed rope at the cut line. Then slice the rope at the cut line using a sharp blade. Fuse the cut fibers with a flame, rolling the hot end on a flat surface to keep the melted nylon from forming a bulky blob. Top rope climbing refers to a system where the climber is secured from above by a rope controlled by a belayer. Because there is little slack in the rope the climbers fall is very limited. The anchor securing the rope is known to be good. This makes top rope climbing very safe. Flexible materials are not a suitable substitute for hooks or other rigid structures. Materials such as rope will tighten around the piercing, causing the skin to be pulled to one point and rip. More rigid items such as hooks are definitely better choices unless the goal is to tear free (for example in a ball dance or Sundance-type ceremony). If you need help or wheel chair for any physical activity, or can slowly walk or needs help to climb a couple of steps. You can fully enjoy most of the castles. You can visit all of the castles that are on ground level (90%). You will not be able to go to the top of some of the castles that require extraneous walking and stair climbing (10%). If you let go of the rope one of two safety systems will engage. Either the self locking mechanism at the top will stop you, or the person at the bottom will brake for you.
