The Chinese for "I love you" sounds something like "wo eye knee" (usually spelt "wo ai ni"). The Chinese character for love includes the symbol for "heart" in its center.

Chinese people attach great importance to their "face". They do not like to lose face, neither risk letting others lose face. So they seldom say "no" or make negative comments directly. Instead of saying no, they often express their disagreement by means of a graceful excuse or a suggestion.

I am half Chinese. My father is from Hong Kong / Macau and my mother is from Newcastle, England. I have lived in England all my life and unfortunately didn't learn Cantonese when I was younger. A viewing is a special time to say a final goodbye. Ideally the viewing can take place a day or so before the funeral in the privacy of our chapel of rest in Gosforth. A viewing provides a last opportunity for family and friends to express thoughts feelings and maybe to place a card or letter, photo, small keepsake or memento in the coffin. Often the immediate family may not feel the need for a viewing but consider the needs of other relatives and friends and allow them that opportunity

Well, not really. He is very skilled at chopsticks and is a black belt in several martial arts forms. I'm teaching him Chinese (abet slowly): he knows useful conversational words like "big nose" (da-bi-zi), "porcupine" (ci-wei, which is my nickname for him), "little tiger" (xiao-hu, which is what he calls me), "hello" (ni-hao), "uncle" (bo-fu) and "aunt" (bu-mu, which is how he addresses my parents), and "I love you" (wo-ai-ni).
