If slink is so good, why do you carry shearling?

Kangaroo Crossing frequently asked questions
Slink is great, but as a full-service sheepskin supplier, we want to offer our customers what they want. Some people prefer the relative "heft" of shearling and or the very straight wool on shearling. Because slink hides are small in size, a slink coat is comprised of more panels than a comparable shearling coat. Some customers prefer fewer panels and seams. Lower grade sheepskins from anywhere are going to be uncomfortably heavy and inflexible.

What is slink and how does it compare with shearling sheepskin?

Kangaroo Crossing frequently asked questions
Slink is spring lamb hide. Shearling is hide from older sheep - typically one to two years old. Shearling hides are larger, thicker and the wool is indeed shorn to a uniform length (usually less than half an inch in length). Slink hides are softer, more supple and lighter in weight than shearling hides. The wool on slink hides is naturally short & curly and prickle-free - slink wool doesn't need to be shorn.

What is shearling?

Sheepskin and Shearling FAQS and Facts From Shepherd's Flock...
Shearling lambskin is the proper term for what many people call "sheepskin". The distinction is basically that a "sheepskin" is technically just that, the skin of a sheep. Shearling is the skin of a newly shorn lamb (market age) that is tanned with the wool in tact on the skin. While we always prefer to use the proper term you will find the terms interspersed on our web pages for technical reasons. All our products are shearling regardless of how we refer to our raw material.

What are all those names like slink, potato, etc.?

The Debian GNU/Linux FAQ - Debian??LFS??Gentoo?????? - Linux...
They are just "codenames". When a Debian distribution is in the development stage, it has no version number but a codename. The purpose of these codenames is to make easier the mirroring of the Debian distributions (if a real directory like unstable suddenly changed its name to stable, a lot of stuff would have to be needlessly downloaded again). Currently, stable is a symbolic link to sarge (i.e. Debian GNU/Linux 3.1) and testing is a symbolic link to etch.

Why haven't I heard of "slink" before?

Kangaroo Crossing frequently asked questions
Slink has been around since "cocky was an egg" (that's Australian for a really long time) but by its nature, it's supply is very limited and what is produced is highly prized and not widely distributed. Typically, because of its cost, lambskin slink has only been found in high-end fur salons in major cities (as a comparison, the cost of slink hides per square foot is double the cost of the finest Spanish Merino-entrefino hides).

Top Question of all times - How long do the shearling soles last?

Sheepskin and Shearling FAQS and Facts From Shepherd's Flock...
There is no definitive answer to this question. There are many factors that determine the life span of the shearling on the bottom not the least of which are the habits of the user. Some people will wear through the bottom in a season and we can honestly say that we have had people whose soles (souls?) have lasted ten years. We believe the average life span is about two years though it could be much longer. We have to go by the age of the slippers we get back for resoling.

Which is better, the shearling sole or the crepe sole?

Sheepskin and Shearling FAQS and Facts From Shepherd's Flock...
It is simply a matter of personal preference and personal habits. Many people simply don't like a slipper with a ridged bottom (Kathy is one of them). However, if you are one of those folks who seem to run outside "just for a minute" in your slippers day in and day out you will be much happier with the durability of the crepe sole. It is a trade off. For comfort we suggest the shearling sole, for wandering out to get the mail or downstairs into the basement we suggest the crepe sole.

Can I carry it anywhere I go?

FAQ - Self Defense Products & Equipment with Audio Recorder
Yes. You cannot carry any pepper spray on an airplane or in carry-on luggage or in the passenger area. The FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) allows one Pepper Spray (up to 4oz or 113grams) per traveler in your checked luggage only. ________________________________________ Most pepper sprays have an expiration date stamped on the can. It is a relatively important factor of the effectiveness of the product. We recommend replacing your pepper spray after the expiration date.

However, due to volume orders on a particular item from time to time we may be delayed on a particular item, but it will always be back in stock in a short period of time. If an item is backordered and we do not expect to be receiving it into our warehouse shortly, the customer will be notified.

How much did you carry?

FAQ
I started out carrying 55 lbs on my back from Amicalola Falls. For the most part, that varied very little. The pack would always be heaviest coming out of town with 5 or 6 days worth of food. Halfway through the trip, I did experiment with sending things ahead to make my load lighter but the difference was negligible. The least my pack weighed was 45 lbs. Sad really.
