For the countryside and the coast, considering both heat and crowds, our opinion is mid-May or late September. If you want to rent right in town, however, our advice is different. For Rome, Florence, or Venice, our advice as to the best time to travel is March or April (avoiding the week before and the week after Easter) or November. Charter flights are the most viable means of getting to the main National Parks, such as Kafue, South Luangwa and the Lower Zambezi. A number of charter companies run regular flights from Lusaka and Livingstone. The frequency of such flights is dependent upon the season. Namibia is an ideal self-drive destination with good infrastructure and well indicated roads although distances between destinations are quite far. Mozambique is an excellent beach holiday end to a trip to Botswana, or even Namibia, and is easily accessed via Johannesburg. Private and scheduled charter flights are recommended for travel to and within Mozambique and are easily arranged from either Johannesburg or Nelspruit airports in South Africa. Most island resorts are reached by boat. We do not recommend self-drive options or trains and coaches as a mode of transport.

That depends on where you're going, what you plan on doing, and how much time you have. You may wish to make use of trains or buses for some trips and a rental car for others.
