Flush Sinks in Granite Top - Granite counter top sink cutouts are not as I ordered. I ordered the sink cutouts on counter tops made for our kitchen to be made FLUSH with the sink bowls.The sink manufacturer specified this on the prep sink cutout for accessories but not on the two bowl sink. I ordered the two bowl to be flush as well to match.They had both sinks in house and I provided them detailed drawings for reference.The tops were delivered with a 3/16 reveal on both sinks.

Yes and no. If the tiles are in a "working" area where water or other liquid is likely to be splashed against it (e.g. Behind the sink, behind the stove) then it is recommended to grout the tiles using the caulking method described in the installation literature. If the tiles are in a purely cosmetic area ? then there is no reason to grout the tiles except for aesthetics.

No. There are other methods for preparing the substrate for tile and the scratchcoat method is among the least reliable.

It is recommended for bathroom applications to use cement backer board or hardy board with a waterproof membrane to avoid transfer of moisture. It is also recommended to seal the granite after installation to avoid water absorption and mildew formation. Granite surfaces are impervious to heat and make a practicl and great looking fireplace surfacing material. Granite tile floors appear the best when the tiles are butted.

You must leave a minimum of 24 hours between fixing and grouting, but the longer it can be left the better. As a rule, the larger the tiles the longer the adhesive should be left to dry before grouting. Also, if the surface being fixed to is not very absorbent (such as onto existing tiles), you should give the adhesive a minimum of 3 days to dry.

For practical reasons tiles need to be grouted. This doesn't detract from the over all visual impact as the panel is designed taking account of the grout joints. Hand made tiles are more irregular in shape than machine made tiles and therefore require a larger grout joint. (So a rustic hand made tile would not be suitable for a geometric design.
