Beginners are not required to wear uniforms (called "karate-gi") during the first 3 months of practice. Any kind of light clothing that you can stretch and move easily in is OK. Beginning students do have the option of purchasing uniforms if they wish.

Yes! Despite what some upperclassmen might tell you, you will wear clothes under your uniform. For games and parades you should wear your band shirt and be sure to bring your band shoes. there may be a lot of kicking and stretching involved it is recommended that you wear baggy sports trousers and a T-shirt for your first couple of lessons. It is also recommended that you remove all jewellery as it may be dangerous to you or your training partner, or it may get broken during the rigorous training.
