A wide variety of Java capable browsers are available for download and installation. We have listed a few browsers that have been recommended by our viewers. The listed browsers represent only a fraction of the browsers that are capable of showing the text display.

FFW works fine in both Internet Exploror (IE) and Mozilla Firefox. Other browsers have not been tested, but if a problem occurs on, for example, Opera or Netscape etc, then please notify us by using the "Contact Us" form.

We currently use Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows NT, XP and 2000 in developing the site. The site should also look good in Netscape 4.x and 7.x, although we do not support Netscape at this time. If you are using an earlier version of Netscape or Explorer, the site may not look or function as designed.

If you were sent a web page link to view the Internet Deposition, please click on the link, or copy the link into the address bar of your browser. You can modify the text color and background color of the main text display. Depending on the size of your desktop (800x600, 1024x768, etc..) you may be offered options to change the text size and display height. The Login page will remain open in the background. The page will offer you a button to re-open the Internet Deposition display window(s).

Most of the AustLII materials are marked-up using HTML2. This means that most browsers should have no trouble with them. While the majority of AustLII users are using Netscape, we are also aware of many users using Microsoft Explorer and even Lynx (often a necessity for the visually impaired who use screen readers). At this stage none of our plans are tied to any particular browser.

A deposition is a formal meeting, with a court reporter, where the defense and/or prosecution may question witnesses who are under oath. This is a very expensive and time- consuming procedure and not often employed in traffic ticket cases.

We suggest you use version 4.7 or higher of Netscape Communicator (aka Navigator) or version 5.5 or higher of Microsoft Internet Explorer. If you have a previous version of one of these browsers, you can download a free copy of the latest version at Netscape's or Microsoft's web site. Yes. Try setting your monitor to a resolution of 800 x 600 or higher (832 x 624, 1024 x 768, etc.).

When opening the text display, a security pop-window will appear regarding installation of, or privileges for, an application from Stenograph L.L.C.. Depending on your web browser and Java Runtime Environment the exact content of this security warning may vary. Please choose Yes (or Grant) to load the text display. The best browser is always going to be the one that appeals to you the most. WVI provides you with the Microsoft Internet Explorer, but feel free to download others until you find the one that works best for you. According to StatMarket, Microsoft Internet Explorer is more popular than Netscape. Microsoft is leading with over 70% of surfers using it, while Netscape has less than 30%.

This is your own personal choice but I like Netscape (all versions, I currently use 4.75 communicator) for Win95/98). It's recommended to upgrade to the latest version of the Web Browser To do this, you need to learn how to download and install software.
