In the US much significance attaches to moving the tassel from one side to the other as the qualification is conferred. This is not a NZ tradition, so it does not matter which side it falls, just try to keep the top of the trencher horizontal. The drunken angle is not a good look! Undergraduate candidates drape their tassel on the right side. Professional, Masters, and Doctoral candidates drape their tassel on the left side and do not move them during the exercises.

The most popular and common is the blenheim. Blenheim is white and a rich ruby color. Not brown! Also, not a lot of freckles. Tri-color is black, tan and white. Again, not freckled. Ruby is pure ruby. A miss-marked ruby will have a very little white on the head or chest. No difference in quality of the temperament or dedication. It’s only difference is price. Black and tan is pure black and tan appropriately marked.

All colors are acceptable. The most commonly seen are the fawns with black masks, with fawn ranging from nearly white or pale champagne, to golden, red, wolf-sable, or badger. Other colors you may see are pintos (with or without a black mask), white, black, blue w/black mask, fawn or cream with a liver mask and nose, brindled, and even brindled pintos. The least commonly seen colors are the brindles, liver or blue fawns, and the blacks.

When using light & sound mind machines, different people see different things. Some see just the flashing light. Most see swirling patterns that have been compared to psychedelic light shows or fractals; some in just red and black, but others in full color. And a few report seeing detailed, virtual reality like scenes. So people frequently post to the Mind Machine Digest mailing list asking why they don't get the primo visuals.

Light colors go transparent faster than darker colors, and solids don't provide as much coverage as patterns. Irregular patterns are better than regular patterns (eg: stripes). White, yellow, and red will fade rapidly; blue and green last longer. Look for suits with a lining in the front to provide better coverage. Red suits often have a black lining for longer usability.

We apologize for not having all colors mentioned showing on the item page, but all pictures we have are already online. Most of our dresses come in standard colors/shades. If not, it is mentioned on the page. For example, dark lilac is mentioned as "Victorian Lilac" or "Dark Lilac".

Primarily there are (dark) traditional Bengals and snows. In these two catagories you will find leopards and marbles. However when referring to leopards and marbles you are speaking of markings. There are in fact various colors with various markings. There are accepted colors, new colors (being introduced to T.I.C.A.) and non-accepted colors. Non accepted colors are black, known as melanistic and blue (essentially a grey coat). A new color being introduced soon will be the silver.

The custom academic regalia worn by our degree candidates bears the seal of the University of South Carolina and is sold exclusively by the University Bookstore in the Russell House located on Greene Street in Columbia.
