What GRE or TOEFL scores are required?

For foreign applications, we require a TOEFL score of 600. While your GRE score is important, we have no specific cut-off for GRE scores, and consider the GRE score to be just one part of your overall application. All applicants must submit a GRE score to be considered for fellowships or graduate teaching assistantships.

If GRE scores are several years old, are they still acceptable?

If your GRE scores are less than 5 years old, they are still acceptable. If your GRE scores are 5 years old or older, you must retake the GRE. Be sure to specifically request that ETS Submit the GRE scores to UC Davis ELECTRONICALLY ONLY. A photo copy or paper version of the scores is not acceptable.

If you are applying to any of the dual degree programmes, MIT requires that GRE scores be sent directly to the host department by ETS. For the non-dual degree programmes, you may submit the scores together your application materials to the SMA Office. We look at all of the materials and try to arrive at an accurate portrait of the applicant that includes experience, the breadth of previous coursework and recommendations. In general, however, competitive GRE scores will be in the 600s for the verbal section, in the 600s for the quantitative section, and 5 or above (on a 6-point scale) for the writing section.
