You may have started PICTURE IT! Software as a stand- alone application and then selected 'Get Images' from the PhotoDoc scanner, choosing black-and-white scans. When the scan was transferred to the PICTURE IT! application, the image was garbled, although grayscale and color scans were fine. The solution is to scan black-and-white images into the PICTURE IT! application by using the Launcher's PICTURE IT! icon, and your black-and-white scans transfer correctly.

You are probably trying to play an NTSC disc in a PAL player, but your PAL TV is not able to handle the signal. If your player has a switch or onscreen setting to select the output format for NTSC discs, choosing PAL (60-Hz) may solve the problem. See section 1.19 for more information.

If your unit is using an S-Video connection, try replacing the cable. Often, a broken pin in the connector can cause this problem. If your unit isn't using an S-Video connection, press and hold down the power button on the front of the machine until you see the words "Please Wait a Few Moments".

WinImages is an aspect-correct program. It reads the DPI (dots-per-inch) settings from an image file and uses them to set the ratio of width to height for display. Some programs do not set these values in the image file correctly, and as a result, the image will appear distorted. The solution is to select "Change Image Info" from the menus and edit the DPI setting. If you want the change to be permanent, you'll need to re-save the image.

Each input file to the render program starts with 19 header records that describe image layout and processing options. The fifth line contains three numbers which specify the RGB values for the background. 0 0 0 specifies a black background; 1 1 1 specifies a white background; 0.9 0.9 0.4 specifies a light yellow background, and so on.

Scanned images may be stored in the program. These can include scanned medical reports such as old records, lab or xray reports, correspondence, etc. You may also scored digital photographs in the system.

You may have connected one of the component outputs (usually colored red, green, and blue) of your DVD player to the composite input of your TV. Connect yellow to yellow. See section 3.2 for hookup details. Also, if you've hooked up component video, check the three cables to make sure one of them hasn't become disconnected or developed a short and that they are connected in the correct order.

The picture will appear to be black and white when you have configured the driver to use NTSC and have a PAL video camera. Most capture cards are configured to use NTSC as default.
