If you want to load the Java classes and applet HTML file locally from your own file system, you need to invoke your web browser with your CLASSPATH set. Otherwise, the applet fails. The applet has to be loaded from the code base in your HTML file and this code base directory should be in the CLASSPATH. If you want to load the classes over the network, Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer do not allow any communication except to the host from where you have loaded your applet.

I develop my applets with Netscape in mind, and before distributing them, I test them on the following Windows 95 browsers: Internet Explorer 4.0 If I notice any problems, either I will not release the applets or I will make a note of the trouble on my webpages.

This extension works only with Firefox version 1.5 and later. It doesn't work in the Mozilla Suite, Internet Explorer or Opera.

Netscape Communicator 4.x and Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.x include JDK 1.1.x and are known to work. I've had a report that some markers don't work in the Apple Macintosh Safari web browser. I haven't been able to confirm this myself, but the problem may have to do with the URL for the marker. If the failing marker URL contains the two letters "q=", try deleting the part of the URL from there through to the next "&". After deleting that section of the URL, you should still have a "ll=" and a "spn=" in there somewhere.

Any compliant HTTP/1.0 or HTTP/1.1 client that can speak to an HTTP proxy should be fine. This includes every browser known to me.

You have an old (broken/incomplete) config.cache (config.status) file left over. Delete those! Or if you have a recent set of the auto* tools installed (See INSTALL.html) run the CVSMake script, and then configure again. configure (and the generated Makefiles) won't work if the build directory resides in a path which has embedded blanks, e.g. "/usr/work/Fine Software". The simple and only solution is to move it to another path.

JMF is not properly installed on your machine or is not available on the website that contains the applet in question. Upgrade to a more recent version of the browser. The applet might have thrown a security exception - check the Java Console pertaining to your browser.

The HTML 4 keyword color names are black, green, silver, lime, gray, olive, white, yellow, maroon, navy, aqua, red, blue, purple, teal, fuchsia, and aqua. The color names are not case sensitive.
