The "Peak Oil" theory generally indicates a point when the world has reached its peak production of oil. This event does not mark the "end of oil", rather it marks a time when oil will likely become increasingly more expensive. Such an event will undoubtedly have a significant impact on travel and transport. Nobody is certain when this event will occur. Estimates range from now to 30 or more years into the future. The sooner the date, the more serious the problem.

The Heartland Expressway is one of 80 Federally designated, high priority corridors1. When completed, the Heartland Expressway will provide multi-lane, divided highway access between Rapid City, SD and Denver, CO via Alliance NE, Scottsbluff, NE and Brush, CO. The Heartland Expressway will also provide access to Colorado Springs and Texas via Limon, CO and I-25 in Wyoming via Torrington. The Heartland Expressway originally traveled from Denver to Scottsbluff via Cheyenne and Kimball.

The Heartland Expressway will provide many benefits of national, regional, and local significance. The Heartland Expressway has a goal of being completed by 2015. However, the ability to meet this goal will be challenged by many elements outside the control of the Heartland Expressway such as the rising costs of construction, the availability of state and federal funds, or acts of terrorism, to name just a few.

The speed limit on the rural areas of the Heartland Expressway is 65 m.p.h. on both the 2-lane and 4-lane segments, except for Interstate 76 which has a speed limit of 75 m.p.h.

Modern telecommunication technologies provide an enormous economic opportunity for rural areas. These technologies have enabled many rural towns overcome logistical barriers to establish, expand and/or recruit a wide range of businesses unlikely to develop in a rural area just a decade ago. However, they have not eliminated the need for quality highway access. Developing information technology, in itself, will not automatically bring about long-term job creation.

When only including the U.S. counties this corridor runs through, the Great Plains Trade Corridor will benefit over 4 million Americans. The corridor will also directly benefit over a half million Canadian residents and 3.5 million Mexican residents for a total of over 8 million direct beneficiaries. The Heartland Expressway, by itself, will directly benefit more than 2.5 million persons.

Metropolitan areas have highly developed transportation systems. Very large investments in urban areas usually only effect minor changes to the cities overall accessibility.10 Conversely, rural projects such as the Heartland Expressway provide a dramatic increase to the region's accessibility and mobility due to the less developed nature of transportation systems in rural areas such as the Great Plains.

While the Wyoming (WY) Highway 85 route would create a shorter route between Rapid City and Denver, developing the WY Highway 85 corridor as the Heartland Expressway would be a VERY BAD IDEA for several reasons. Utilizing the WY Highway 85 corridor would contribute to the already severe and rapidly worsening congestion on the Interstate 25 corridor in Colorado.

Although Highway 24 is not "officially designated" as part of the Heartland Expressway's Federal High Priority Corridor, it is an integral part of the Heartland Expressway vision and concept. This route provides an essential "bypass" connection to the Heartland Expressway around the congested segments of Interstate 25 from Colorado Springs to Denver and Fort Collins. However, such designation is not being pursued at this time.

Sometimes, parts of your soles can become too thick and the callus can crack which is often painful. This generally happens around the edges of your heels. To prevent the cracks in the first place, file some of the callus with pumice from the edges only and use a greasy substance (e.g. olive oil) to keep the edges supple.
