It will replicate a full 360 degrees if the carving and duplicate blank are rotated during the carving process. Most woodworkers find that carving two sides gives them four sided results. I use it for fish so when I carve one side I just flip the original over and the blank and complete the other side. Once both sides are cut, the top and bottom of the fish are automatically completed since they were the outer profile of the sides.

You can replicate anything in the round that is 12"W x 10"H x 36" L or smaller if the Copy Carver is built to the dimensions shown in the plans. However, you can increase of decrease the plan dimensions in proportion to accommodate whatever you need to replicate. Several carvers reduced the Copy Carver in size by 70% and replaced the trimmer router with a handheld Dremel or RotoZip and they are replicating jewelry and plastic models in wood and stone. Yes it can, very easily, however it is not covered in the instructions. Since most of the people using the Copy Carver are interested in one-to-one replication we didn't want to confuse the process by adding more routers. The adaptation is simple, and portable. Anything you can find a 1/4" shaft cutter for. Most of the users duplicate their carvings in wood. Many of them duplicate woodcarvings in soft stone with incredible results. Most of the same carbide cutters designed for wood will also work well in soft stone. One carver I know machines soft aluminum for ultra-light airplane parts he designs. The degree of cracking (or "checking" as it is called by carvers) that occurs in a carving really depends on several things. First it depends on the amount of moisture in the log. If the log is freshly cut, it retains a great deal of the original moisture of the tree. It may take years for the wood to dry out. Most logs dry at about 1 inch per year. So a fresh cut log that is 18 inches in diameter may take up to 8 or 9 years to completely dry. See similar questions...

The Copy Carver built according to the plan dimensions will need an area 6' x 6' to use the machine, leaving you plenty of room to work. Storing it requires 6' x 3' of floor space, or the rolling carriage can be lifted off, folded up and hung on a wall while the table can be leaned against the wall as well. Yes, most cracks can be repaired. It is a good idea to wait until the log is dry, or finished cracking before repairing the crack. It will open back up again if it is not dry. In the mean time, a little stain placed in the crack may help hide the crack from view until it dries. An example might be using a little dark stain to fill in a crack on a black bears back. This will make the crack practically invisible, while the carving finishes drying out a little more. See similar questions...

Carving and tooling leather is the process by which almost any image can be cut into leather. First an image is chosen and carved into the leather with a special knife. Then a series of tools are used to give the image depth and a 3D appearance. We have built 3D computer models of most of all the main types of neurons and can simulate their individual behaviors with great detail and very accurately. At this stage we can capture the complexity of the fast neurotransmitters very accurately as well with phenomenological models that we have built. A more difficult issue is the slow neurotransmitters and the neuromodulators as well as hormonal effects. These will take a while longer to model, but there is no major obstacle to this.
