We had to ask Whooping Crane Biologist Tom Stehn these questions. He says whoopers live 20-30 years in the wild and can live 40+ years in captivity. The oldest whooping crane in captivity died in January 2003. He was 38 years old. The second question is hard for even Tom to answer.
