CAN I JUST FIELD-TREAT LUMBER IN PLACE OF USING PRESSURE-TREATED LUMBER?
FAQGenerally no, you will obtain nowhere near the same level of durability. Lumber must be pressure-treated to obtain the proper penetration depth and chemical level for adequate long-term protection of the lumber. Field treatment with organic solvent-based preservatives works acceptably well on lumber ends but not on the flat surfaces. This is because end-grain of lumber absorbs preservative up to 100 times more than the flat surface. See similar questions...
What About the Chemicals in Treated Lumber?
FAQRecent studies have shown that you can use a Delmhorst meter with confidence at the treating plant, job site, or when the wood is in service if the preservative is a "C oxide" formulation (CCA-C) widely used today. Our experience has shown that at higher moisture content levels (above 20 percent), chemically treated lumber tends to yield somewhat erratic readings. See similar questions...
ANY SUGGESTIONS WHEN BUILDING WITH TREATED LUMBER?
Frequently Asked QuestionsOne quite important one: Use hot-dip galvanized meeting ASTM-A153/A653, 304 or 316 stainless steel or other fasteners, otherwise, your treated wood will last longer than the unprotected fasteners you've used to put it together. SHOULD PRESSURE-TREATED LUMBER AND PLYWOOD BE DRIED PRIOR TO INSTALLATION?
FAQYes. As with all construction wood, both treated wood and plywood should be dried to a moisture content of 19% or less prior to installation in a building to ensure dimensional stability. Drying is less important when CCA-treated wood is to be used outdoors. See similar questions...
How do I know the lumber which I buy has been properly treated?
FAQ on Treated LumberIf you purchase pressure treated lumber which carries the TP (Timber Products) stamp on the lable then you can be assured that the lumber has been treated to pass the minimum standards of two different teating processes. One test provides for the assurance that the lumber as passed a retention test. This means that all lumber with a .40 designation or the words ground contact on the end tag will have a minimum of 40 percent of chemical concentration in the wood. See similar questions...

How much water is in lumber?
Frequently Asked Questions - Drying & Dehydration | Nyle...A lot. In Fact, some species of wood are more than 50 percent water in terms of their weight when freshly cut. Is Pressure Treated a more expensive, maintenance-free lumber?
Fence-All - FAQ for Wood FencesPressure Treated Lumber is a less expensive alternative to Cedar, or other wood types that are naturally good for outdoor projects. Because most common wood species have little resistance to decay, some form of chemical preservative is necessary to protect the lumber from rot and from attack of insects and fungi. This chemical treatment does not stop dimensional changes in the wood which are caused by changes in the weather and humidity. See similar questions...

Aluminum Technology, Aluminum Testing, Aluminum ResearchHeat treatments are applied to aluminum alloys, both wrought and cast, for the purpose of modifying the alloy's mechanical properties. In the non-heat treatable alloys, annealing is used to remove the effects of cold working, resulting in reduced strength but increased ductility or formability. For the heat treatable alloys, the heat treatment sequence of solutionizing, quenching, and aging alloys a wdie range of properties to be produced. The highest strength aluminum alloys are heat treatable. See similar questions...
