For the 2-stroke models, any 5/32" x 1" (4mm x 24mm) shear pin will work just fine. There are two types of shear pins available; brass and stainless steel. Brass shear pins will "give" if you strike an underwater object, however, brass shears pins may also break more easily if shifting or accelerating too quickly. Stainless steel shear pins are much harder than brass shear pins and won't give if striking an object and may cause damage to the prop.

With the exception of our outboards which have oil injection systems, Nissan 2-stroke outboards require a 50:1 (2.5 ounces of oil for each gallon of gas) oil/gas mixture after the initial break-in period. Nissan outboards which have oil injection will automatically mix the correct amount of oil and gas depending on the engine requirements; you don't have to pre-mix your oil & gas with these systems. This depends on your loaded boats displacement, how far you intend to motor, and the conditions that may be encountered. Serendipity came with a 3.9 hp Volvo Penta (yes they made outboards) with a 2 blade prop. This would push her 4.3 mph in flat conditions. However with 3 foot steep waves and a 20 knot wind on the nose we stood perfectly still at full throttle. We've since mounted a 5 hp Mariner with a 3 blade prop. See similar questions...

If you live anywhere where the summer temperature reaches above 80 degrees, your llama will thank you for a summer haircut. Llama coats take 2 years to reach full growth, so it may be necessary to trim them only every other year. It is also not a good idea to take the wool off all the way down to the skin - they can sunburn! Usually you shear once a year in the late winter, February or March. This is about six weeks before the ewes have their lambs. There are several good reasons to shear at this time as you can keep track of the ewes' condition and the sheep tend to stay closer to the barn with the newborn lambs.
