anesthetic cream is applied to the eyelids to numb the skin. Small injections are then given to make the deeper tissues numb. Generally there is no pain during surgery. If you are very nervous, you will be given a Valium pill to help you relax.

For maximum comfort, general anesthesia is preferred. Regional anesthesia is an option for some patients. Your surgeon will discuss which type is best for you.

Most cosmetic surgery procedures are performed with general anesthetic. This excludes small, superficial procedures such as mole removal. General anesthesia always carries risks, but these risks are no greater in plastic surgery than in any other surgical procedure. General anesthetics are administered at the surgical center by licensed Anesthesiologists. The surgery can be done with local anesthesia, level two IV sedation, or level three general anesthesia's (anesthesia). Most surgeons prefer IV sedation, or what is commonly known as “twilight sleep”, as it makes postoperative recovery immediate and usually results in none of the discomfort from general anesthesia—typically, post op drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and endotrachial post-surgical effects.

Usually breast reduction surgery takes from three to five hours depending on the size of your breasts and the amount of change necessary to improve their size and shape. The procedure is usually done with general anesthesia, administered by a physician anesthesiologist. Most operations are done as outpatient surgeries, sometimes with overnight stay at a skilled nursing facility.
