When half-Life starts loading, the tools will have already finished their compile. Sounds like your Video card doesn't like running both WC and H-L at once. I suggest running your compiles WITHOUT running the game. EXIT WC after the map compiles. Then run Half-Life with the "-dev -console" parameters (without the quotes). When it loads up, hit the "console" button. Then type in "map mymap" (again without the quotes), where "mymap" is the map filename WITHOUT the .bsp on the end.

Hit refresh or reload at the top of your screen. If that doesn't help, sign off and reboot your computer (Ctrl + Alt + Delete to reboot) or press the reset button. This happens on one of my machines, too. Knoppix is NOT trying to hide anything its doing. Its just trying to figure out the "best" way to use your video card. There are a few reasons this may be happening. First, your display setting may not be at least 800x600 pixels and a color depth of 16 bit. To check this, right click on your desktop and select properties. Click on the settings tab at the top and adjust the Screen Area slider to be at least 800x600 pixels. Freezing happens due to several factors, so there is no single solution for everyone. Your configuration is incorrect. You must indicate the neighbors of every screen. Just because you've configured 'Apple' to be to the left of 'Orange' does not mean that 'Orange' is to the right of 'Apple'. You must provide both in the configuration.
