All rechargeable batteries (NiCad, NiMH, Li Ion, and Lead Acid) must be disposed of properly through approved recycling facilities. To recycle your batteries, they may be returned to a battery retailer in you area (i.e. Sears, Radio Shack), automotive service station or other authorized collection centers for recycling. Don't dispose of those old batteries until you use PULSE POWERTM. After 4, 5 or more charge/use cycles PULSE POWERTM in many cases will restore "dead batteries" -batteries that have developed "memory effect" (voltage depression) to original or near original capacity. Unfortunately, not all batteries can be saved, depending on the history of the battery, physical damage occurs, shorted or leaky cells develop and in these cases usually the battery cannot be saved.

Dispose of HHW by attending a county sponsored HHW Round-Up, scheduled throughout the County of Los Angeles (phone 1-800?98-TOXIC to learn more about the HHW Round-ups). The facility is funded by the Cities of Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach and a grant from the California Integrated Waste Management Board The Community Hazardous Collection Facility also has 5-gallon containers of unused paint available for free. These items are considered hazardous waste and cannot be collected by our garbage trucks. You may dispose of them at the household hazardous waste collection center at 2750 Patterson St., Greensboro, NC. The center is open Wednesday - Friday from 10 am. to 6 pm., and on Saturday from 8 am. to 2 pm.

Our office does not handle battery disposal at UNH. The UNH Office of Environmental Health and Safety (OEHS) handles UNH policies, regulations, and management of any waste that could be hazardous. Since passage of the Mercury-Containing and Rechargeable Battery Management Act of 1996, use of mercury in batteries was phased out in the U.S. (This act also regulates the proper disposal of nickel cadmium batteries, small sealed lead-acid batteries, and other regulated batteries.
