What is the difference between a Satin finish, a Semi Gloss finish and a High Gloss finish?

Welcome to Knox Hardwood Flooring
The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. The High Gloss finish is the hardest to maintain in that it shows everything - dust, dirt, scratches, dents, and wear and tear in general the quickest.

How do you clean a varnique semi-gloss finish butcher block?

Butcher Block Counter FAQs
Varnique semi-gloss finished butcher blocks clean up easily with mild soap and warm water. Varnique is impervious to most household chemicals, though it is wise to avoid the use of harsh chemicals or harsh detergents that may damage the finish. Varnique, though less permeable to water than natural oil, is not impermeable; therefore, it is wise to clean up liquid spills on your butcher block counter as soon as they appear. There may be a slight color variation from batch to batch. Allow the polish to dry completely before you decide it doesn't match. See similar questions...

A drop-in sink sits on top of the cutout in your granite counter while an undermount sink sits beneath the cutout. There is generally an extra polishing charge required in preparing a granite countertop for an undermount sink. See similar questions...

Which wears better, gloss, satin or matt?

Floor Sanding FAQs
In the 20th century, when solvent-based polyurethanes were common, gloss was harder wearing, because manufacturers used additives which weaken the finish to achieve a satin or matt look. Can CERAM-KOTE coatings achieve a high gloss finish?

Due to the heavy loading of ceramic particles and solids into our CERAM-KOTE coatings, a true high gloss cannot be achieved with CERAM-KOTE epoxy coatings. Only CERAM-KOTE urethanes, although loaded with ceramics as well, can achieve high gloss. A semi-gloss may be achieved with proper application and curing techniques (CERAM-KOTE 2000 and CERAM-KOTE 99 formulas have better gloss retention than CERAM-KOTE 54?). See similar questions...

How can I get a glossy finish when the can says "Satin"?

Cabots - faq - cabots.com.au
Most woodstains and varnishes are relatively thin and over time the flatting agents may settle out into fairly solid layers on the bottom of the can. Applying an incompletely stirred mid sheen product often results in a high gloss coating on the timber as a large proportion of the flatting agents are left at the base of the container. To achieve the specified sheen level all of these flatting agents must be distributed evenly throughout the can. See similar questions...
