Many subwoofers contain their own amplifier and crossover. For these, take the preamp output and feed it into the subwoofer amp input and also into the main amplifier. For other subwoofers, just run them in parallel with your main speakers, or combine them into your system with your own bass amplifier and crossover. Some A/V receivers contain a splitter specifically for use with subwoofers.

The vast majority of people should use a mono cable (connect it to the SUBWOOFER or LFE output on your receiver). Use stereo cables only with 2-channel stereo preamps.

A subwoofer is a specialized speaker responsible for the most difficult duty in home theater. It produces the very deep, room shaking notes that add a magical effect and balance the sound. This requires providing lots of power to fill a room with sound, and large mechanical motions of the subwoofer. When you hear about Dolby 5.1, the ".1" refers to the subwoofer's special role in a surround sound system consisting of five speakers and (at least) one subwoofer.

The subwoofer outputs are dual mono, since low frequency information is mixed as a non-directional, mono signal.

Connecting a powered subwoofer is extremely simple. Most of today's digital home theater receivers or processors have a dedicated "Subwoofer Output" connection (RCA or Low-Level). Simply connect a male to male RCA connector from the output on your receiver/processor to the subwoofer input on the subwoofer. If your receiver/processor does not have a subwoofer output, using speaker wire (high-level) from the Front Left and Front Right amplifier outputs is recommended.

Easy, all you need is a cord that is has two RCA connectors on one side and an 1/8th inch jack on the other. You can buy one at Radio Shack. You can get the fancy one that says it is for iPods for $30, or one that does the same thing but does not say iPod on it for $6 bucks.

Connecting a wireless system directly to your home stereo system is not recommended, because the voltage provided by the wireless system may not be strong enough to drive the input on your home stereo system. Most home stereo system’s line level RCA inputs require a minimum voltage of 300 mV, while the balanced and unbalanced outputs on all Audio-Technica wireless systems are providing much less.

If you are connecting a stereo amplifier or two different amplifiers to a stereo cabinet make sure the impedance and power handling of the cabinet matches your amplifier/amplifiers. If you are using our standard 4x12" this has two sockets and a selector switch on the back, setting this switch to stereo splits the cabinet into right & left. The two sockets will now have an impedance of 8 ohms with a power handling depending on the cabinet you have.
