What is VSIP/VERA?

Frequently Asked Questions
Voluntary Separation Incentive Pay (VSIP) is a tool whereby management can offer a monetary incentive to encourage employees to voluntarily separate by retiring or resigning rather than be subject to involuntary separation through RIF. Voluntary Early Retirement Authority (VERA) allows employees to retire prior to meeting normal age and service requirements. This too allows employees to voluntarily separate rather than face possible involuntary separation through RIF.

Q20. Will there be a VERA/VSIP this year?

BRAC Question Response Review
A20. It is still too early to know the exact impacts on activities, positions, and employees at Redstone Arsenal. VERA/VSIP is one of the tools that could be used in the appropriate circumstances to help minimize the impacts on employees. A21. No, the BRAC recommendation does not address any SMDC realignments in association with the HQ relocation. The vast majority of PEO MS systems receive support from the Aviation and Missile LCMC elements today. See similar questions...

Q4. How many slots and what dates have been authorized during the AMCOM VERA/VSIP?

BRAC Question Response Review
A4. The decision has not been made on what VERA/VSIP offers may be made during BRAC. Generally employees are ineligible for VERA/VSIP if they have a valid offer of continued employment (even if it is to a different geographic site). Some Restructure VERA/VSIPs may be offered during BRAC. If you have questions on regular non-BRAC Restructure VERA/VSIPs, direct them to your chain of command. A2. See similar questions...

What is Polycythemia Vera?

Myeloproliferative Disorders: PV FAQ
Polycythemia vera is one of the myeloproliferative disorders (MPD). In this variant, there is uncontrolled production of mature red cells leading to high hematocrit (Hct), hemoglobin (Hg) and red cell mass with increased blood volume and viscosity which can lead to complications involving clotting or bleeding episodes if not controlled. The MPDs also include essential thrombocythemia (ET), agnogenic myeloid metaplasia (AMM), secondary myelofibrosis (MF) and chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). See similar questions...

How is Polycythemia Vera Diagnosed?

Myeloproliferative Disorders: PV FAQ
While we have heard of cases where a diagnosis is made simply based on blood counts, most hematologists follow the guidelines of the Polycythemia Vera Study Group and run certain diagnostic tests. If the Study Group findings are present, then a diagnosis can be made with certainty. Therefore, certain physical and laboratory findings are believed critical by many doctors to reach a diagnosis of polycythemia vera. See similar questions...

How is Polycythemia Vera Treated?

Myeloproliferative Disorders: PV FAQ
Phlebotomy has been one of the most common initial therapies for many polycythemic patients. There has been a lot of experience with it. The purpose of phlebotomy is to reduce the red blood cell mass (RBC mass)-that is, the total number of circulating red blood cells, and to do it fairly quickly, at least in the beginning when the hematocrit (Hct) is high. The blood in your normal circulation contains red blood cells and plasma. See similar questions...

What causes Polycythemia Vera?

MPD Online Resource
Genetic studies suggest that the appearance of the abnormal stem cells in a person with PV is due to a mutation in a gene or genes in a single cell. The trigger for this is not understood, but as in cancer and leukemia, agents like radiation or toxic chemicals (eg benzene) may be suspected in some cases. For most of us it is not possible to track down a specific cause. See similar questions...

If you take a VSIP can you be reemployed as a contractor within 12 months?

Frequently Asked Questions
A DoD employee, who receives a buyout, may not be reemployed by the Department (including NAF employment or through a personal services contact) for a 12-month period beginning on the effective date of the employee’s separation. Question 9 on the DOD BRAC Transition website's FAQs provides information regarding what constitutes a personal services contract. The provisions of the DOD policy will not change. Application and adherence to the policy is a command decision. See similar questions...

Where Does Polycythemia Vera Fit in?

Myeloproliferative Disorders: PV FAQ
mentioned above, in this variant, the PHPC clone (stem cell responsible for blood production) produces too many red blood cells which literally causes the patient to have "too much blood". The resulting increased blood volume and thickness leads to the complications associated with this disease. The risks of complications can be reduced by appropriate treatment. How is Polycythemia Vera Treated initially?

MPD Online Resource
Phlebotomy (called venesection in some countries) is the most common initial treatment for most polycythemic patients. It is done to reduce the red blood cell mass (RBC mass) — that is, the total number of circulating red blood cells. It is generally done weekly, until the hematocrit (Hct) is reduced to an acceptable level. The target level for Hct is 45 in men and 42 in women. Phlebotomy is a way of rapidly reducing the volume of red blood cells down to normal levels. See similar questions...

I have also heard about aloe vera. Didn't you use it in addition to cesium?

Frequently asked questions
Yes, I took a form of aloe vera high in long-chain polysaccharides along with the cesium. The reason I did so was to boost my immune function. Aloe vera has been used for thousands of years. It is a component of many cosmetics and burn creams. In fact, Alexander the Great instructed his soldiers to bring aloe vera with them to treat wounds. There is extensive scientific literature concerning the properties of aloe vera, and the U.S. See similar questions...

Are there any doctors using cesium and aloe vera to treat cancer?

Frequently asked questions
While there are probably physicians using this therapy, none would admit it out of fear that they would be charged with using an unapproved drug or procedure. In every state, local medical societies set what is called the "standard of care." If a doctor fails to follow this standard they stand to lose their license and even go to jail.
