It takes a while to initialize the LimeWire GUI. In general, startup times for Java applications are slower than for native applications. However, Java programs will work much faster after initialization.

The new Webmail may take longer to load than the older version. This is due to the dramatic increase in features and capabilities included in the new version. Although times will vary, a 56Kbps connection should take approximately one minute to load Webmail. If you are using Alfred State College's dial-in system, the maximum connect speed is about 30Kbps - expect Webmail to take approximately two minutes to load.

The enhanced version initially takes longer to load due to added functionality such as the toggle on/off ability of graphics, calculating the distance from a storm to your approximate location and lat/lon info for hurricane tracking. However, many of the overlays are static in that they do not require to be retransmitted to update the page.

Some older versions of browsers or computers may not be able to view some web features. You can check whether you have an up to date version by visiting the home page of your browser's maker (for example by using a search engine to find it). You may also need to download some extra software for some features.

The Internet can be compared to driving in a large city. Depending on the amount of traffic, you may be making good time and traveling smoothly, you may hit construction (especially if you live in NEPA), you may hit a traffic jam, you may be held up due to inclement weather, or you may be stopped talking to someone on your cell phone. The Internet has the same basic principles and problems.

When accessing the internet video for the first time several Active-X controls will be loaded onto your computer to show the video, and PTZ control (if enabled). These controls should install within 1 - 2 minutes (on broadband connection). Once those controls have been installed, when returning to the page it will load within a few seconds.

The Student workstation software normally loads in five minutes or less. The Management software loading takes approximately fifteen to twenty minutes to load. All software load times depend on the speed of the computer components itself.

On some slower systems, there may be a noticeable delay while the program loads. It is initializing a large amount of data. On the other hand, once initialized, it is faster (we think) than any other program. Lightning fast!

The answer to this question depends on several factors. Obviously, how well you make your static pages is extremely important. Are they inter-linked? Did you explore the relationships in your content? Another hugely important factor is your site's link popularity and each search engine's crawl frequency. You might see that the engines crawl at least some of your pages within a very short period of time, though if you have a lot of static pages it might take up to a few months.

In a conventional teletext system, there is no way of relaying the page number you key in back to the broadcaster. Instead, all the pages are broadcast in rotation (known as a data carousel). Once you have keyed in a page number, your TV waits for the page to be broadcast and then displays it. Thus, the more pages a system has, the slower it will be. The speed of page access also depends on the size of your TV's memory chip.

Hours! The graphics can sometimes take days to get just right. Other items, such as the site organization testing and updating various links, can be done in a matter of minutes. The biggest time gobbler thus far has been the overwhelming task of learning all the computer techno stuff to make the site actually get up and run. If you are on a dial up connection with at least a transfer rate of 33.6 kbps which is the average rate for a 56k modem, you can expect about a 3 minute wait to completely download a 1 mb video. Our videos will normally be compressed to just under 1 MB per minute of video for the dial up connections. Since we are streaming you will only have to ( buffer ) download a portion of the video to begin the stream.
