The Foundation Fighting Blindness maintains a computerized National Registry to identify and collect medical and family histories of people in the U.S. with retinal degenerative diseases. Participants who complete a Registry questionnaire may also give permission to The Foundation to release their names to researchers for Foundationapproved studies. Many of the patients who will participate in future clinical studies will be identified in this way. A Registry form is included with this packet.

Our Scientific Advisory Board is made up of very experienced scientists, who are all experts in their fields and who are in touch with their colleagues in other countries. They are aware of what is happening in their field in other major centres. However, duplication of research is not always a bad thing - it can also be necessary to confirm that the first scientist got it right.

Procedures for allocating funding for EBI research projects have been designed to create a nimble research enterprise that will empower faculty researchers to follow promising emerging research directions and take advantage of breakthroughs and unforeseen opportunities. The EBI will allocate financial support to faculty investigators at the three host institutions through a competitive peer-reviewed process each year.

It is anticipated that the new EBI programs and projects will be announced by the end of November 2007.

All member countries that participate in the military aspect of the Alliance contribute forces and equipment, which together constitute the integrated military structure of the Alliance. These forces and assets remain under national command and control until a time when they are required by NATO a specific purpose (i.e. conflict or crisis, peacekeeping). NATO, however, does possess some common capabilities owned and operated by the Alliance, such as the AWACS early warning radar aircraft.

The IP allows us to fund a project which is much broader in scope and ambition then the research projects we could fund the past. Of course, our "old-style" research projects have not disappeared, but still exist as Specific targeted research projects - STREPs. IP is not just focused on carrying out a piece of research or development.

There is great variability in research that differs on at least three dimensions. First is the topic.
