The water at Dakota Hot Springs is a naturally flowing and is odorless and tasteless. The water does contain calcium, mineral salts, soda, and a trace of sulphur.

You would know it if you had this problem! In some parts of the country, drinking water can contain the chemical hydrogen sulfide, which smells just like rotten eggs. Taste and odor problems with the tap water can come from numerous sources. Lake turnover that occurs in the spring and fall can create problems from organic material from the bottom of the lake. The California Department of Health requires the District to maintain a certain level of chlorine in the water to ensure that it remains bacteria free. This amount of chlorine is not harmful to people.

The most common cause for this smell could be stagnant water from the hot water heater. In which case, you would need to connect a hose to the water heater and allow it to drain. Another cause might be the plumbing trap under the sink could be too shallow or need to be cleaned.

Chlorine, a disinfectant which is added to the water to kill germs. Typically, Tempe adds between 0.8ppm -1.2ppm of chlorine to the water to insure there will be sufficient disinfectant to kill germs at the furthest point from the water treatment plants.
