Like most states, Florida does not register guns, or license owners. If you intend to carry a gun for protection off your property, you should obtain a Florida Concealed Weapons License. In order to obtain a license, you must be a US citizen (not necessarily a resident of Florida), at least 21 years of age, and be able to document some firearms training.

Yes, permits are required in all wilderness areas, National Parks, and other restricted areas along the trail. You can obtain a permit from the agency on which your PCT trip originates. For example, if you plan to travel from Echo Lake to Castle Crags State Park, you would need to contact the Eldorado National Forest since your trip would begin in that forest. During the firing range portion of the class, you will need a reliable handgun, a sturdy belt and a holster to be attached to your belt on your firing-hand side.
