You need not own one since printers are located near classrooms, in residence halls, in the library, and in computer labs. You may wish to buy a printer for your convenience; however, Rose-Hulman will not be responsible for it in any way.

If it is parallel, and the only problem is that it is terribly slow, try setting your printer port into ''polled'' mode: # lptcontrol -p Some newer HP printers are claimed not to work correctly in interrupt mode, apparently due to some (not yet exactly understood) timing problem.

Click on Products and then on Blind and Low Vision. Scroll down to Computers and select Hardware; click Braille Printer.

The env variable ${XPRINTER} defines the default printer used by print applications. The syntax is either <printername> or <printername>@<display> tells an application to look for the printer "hplaser19" on the Xprt display "littlecat:80". If ${XPRINTER} is not set the applications will examine the values of the ${PDPRINTER}, ${LPDEST}, and ${PRINTER} env vars (in that order).

In brief, Windows supports many of the Apple "Postscript" laser printers; check the Windows' printer setup for a list of printers, then look for the "Apple" printers, for specific models. Non-Postscript printers include all of the Apple inkjet printers (all Stylewriters), and some of the oldest laser printers. Regarding impact or dot-matrix printers, you can with effort hook an Imagewriter or Imagewriter II to your Windows system via the SERIAL port; select the C.

The only other issue is what version of the operating system you run. Macs with lots of memory and PowerMac models can run System 6, 7, and often 8. The Classic and most Compact Mac models will only support a few to several MB of memory, so you will most likely run System 6 or some version of System 7. All of these allow the use of printer extensions (drivers selected by "chooser") for most Stylewriter model inkjets.

For a printer to work on your Mac, your Mac's operating system needs to have a "driver" for that printer. Additional software may be needed as well: check your operating system manual for details. For info on a printer's features, or on the OS, check Apple's Web site for the manual and or software. Both are available for download. I was curious about this question, because of the number of people who like printing from pine on The ITD Login Service to a local printer, so I wrote a little script that prints a file to the local printer. Currently, to run it, use the command: On a Mac, this will bring up the printer dialogue, and ask you if you're sure. On a PC, it may do any of several things.

In "Page Setup" (Internet Explorer) or "Print..." (Netscape) menu, change the paper orientation from portrait to landscape. Save the HTML page as a text file and then open it in your word processor; or copy the table and paste it into an open word processor document. Then change the margins, paper size, and font size as necessary. Note: Decimal alignment in the table columns will hold only with a monospace font, such as Courier.

A reader/printer for microfiche and microfilm is near the reading area of the library. The on/off switch is around the right side and there are loading instructions on the tray on the right for microfiche and below the spool on the left for microfilm.

The library has a color printer, located at the Circulation Desk. To print a page or document in color, choose Color Pay at CircDesk from the computer's print menu. Get the last three digits from your workstation's label. Go to the Circulation Desk to pick up and pay for your pages. The cost is 50 cents per page. Color printing is also available in the GAPS Lab, located in the Andersen Computer Lab on the first floor of the building. The library does not have a color copier.
