What are the symptoms of a power steering leak?

Just read up in the manual and all VW's use ATF II up till april 89. After april 89 use the special Petrosin hydraulic fluid CHF This is an old problem that may have numerous causes. Mostly A2 Golfs/GTIs/Jettas/GLIs (8v & 16V) are affected.
