The Satin finish is a matte finish and the easiest to maintain. Because it has a low sheen, it is very forgiving insofar as showing scratches, dents, and wear and tear over time. The Semi Gloss finish has some shine and is a little harder to maintain in that it will show scratches, dents and wear and tear sooner. Graphi Studio Albums are printed with a lustre surface only. This is excellent as it resists finger prints so much better than gloss. For all other Presentations, I use a lustre surface. It may seem strange but, in my mind, "generic" is what you get when buying "branded" media. When purchasing Memorex, Imation, etc. or some superstore "house" brand you're most often getting something that the label company buys from a base manufacturer and puts their name on. The best way to ensure you're getting high quality media is to either ask the label company who manufactures their media (with this info, you can do an internet search on that company's reputation).. Make sure not to graduate too quickly from a 180 file to the white block. Try using the white block buffer a little longer than seems necessary. Be sure to wipe all grit and dust from the nail and the 3-way buffer, as even the smallest amount of dust will prevent a high gloss. Cuticle oil may be helpful.
