AOL uses a proprietary email method that is not compatible with most email software, including Info Select. To use Info Select email we recommend that you get a real email account (one that supports the standard POP3 method) and continue to use AOL for its many non-email functions. Free e-mail accounts are available from http://directory.google.com/Top/Computers/Internet/E-mail/Free/POP3. You can enable automatic forwarding from your AOL account to your real email account.

Yes, AOL version 6.0 will support the LimeWire client. Some people have found that the spyware removal program included with AOL misidentifies LimeWire as spyware and removes it from your computer. If you are having this problem, you should stop using AOL Spyware Protection and use a different spyware removal progam.

You can't use SpamBayes directly with the normal AOL Mail interface, but AOL's Mail system is reputed to allow IMAP access. If that proves to be correct you should be able to use the SpamBayes IMAP filter (sb_imapfilter.py) to scrub your AOL mailbox. Should you try this, reports of your successes or failures on the spambayes@python.org mailing list would be appreciated.

If you have AOL 7.0 or newer, you can configure it to work with our software. However, you must first make AOL the Windows default e-mail program. In the 'Preferences' dialog, click on the 'Association' link to select 'America Online' as your preferred application for web browsing, e-mail and newsgroups. This should make AOL your default program for e-mail, Internet browsing, and accessing newsgroups. Once you've done that, you should be able to transmit messages directly from our software.

AOL is NOT nor has it ever been an internet service provider (ISP). AOL uses proprietary message exchange protocols that don't work with most other programs so there is no POP3 or SMTP address and merely provides limited access to the internet through its' "gateway". At this time you must still use the AOL software, or Email Connection to read AOL Email.

The FxFoto EMail feature is compliant with AOL versions 7, 8 and 9. It is not compliant with AOL versions 4, 5 and 6. If you have one of these early versions of AOL, you should upgrade to allow the FxFoto EMail feature to work with AOL email. If you still cannot send email using AOL 7 or greater using the EMail button in FxFoto, then it is likely that AOL is not set as the default email client on your system.

Yes. Although you will be given a UMass Dartmouth email account once you register for classes, you will still be able to use any other email accounts you already possess. Please note that official university correspondence, such as announcements about emergency closings or your COIN PIN number, will be sent to your UMass Dartmouth account, so it's a good idea to check it regularly. Your email can be forwarded to another account.

No, because these programs require downloading, and WebTV terminals can't download software. That said, some people are recommending Freetown's IMN and Hot Messenger (I personally haven't used these and can't vouch for them). Though some press releases from Microsoft state that in the future WebTV will have access to Microsoft Messenger, this may be an example of "forward-looking statements"... meaning, "wait and see.

AOL frequently blocks automated or bulk emails. This means that AOL users may not receive the automatic notification of login and password. If you use AOL and you think your messages from us are not getting through, click support and send us your full name, date of registration and your telephone number so we can call you if your AOL tries to block our reply.

Recently, Shaw introduced Port 25 filtering to reduce the volume of unsolicited bulk email (SPAM). If you only use a third-party or private email service provider to receive email, this will not affect you, but if you use this provider to also send email, you will need to contact them to obtain an alternate port number and then change the port settings in your email program from Port 25 to the new alternate Port number. Absolutely. eMail2Pop does not relate to the AOL member client in any way. You can check all seven of your e-mail accounts while one of your accounts are signed on AOL. AOL does not even have to be installed.

We recommend that you use a fully-featured POP email client to check your HDS mail. In particular, we recommend Microsoft's Outlook Express—it is free, and our documentation is geared toward this application. Netscape's Messenger client is also reliable. We no longer recommend Eudora for email use off campus, as it is not fully compatible with our network configuration. Yes, you can use any email program you choose, but our Outlook integration offers many efficiencies. We highly recommend that you use Outlook. (Outlook Express is not the same as Outlook and is not compatible with our integration features.)

The three crucial parts to setting up email are the username, password and mail servers. For the username and password, simply copy what you have created in Plesk to your mail program (Outlook, Eudora, etc). Finally, make sure your incoming mail server is mail.yoursite.com where yoursite.com is your domain name. You have to use your ISP's SMTP for the outgoing mail server which varies depending on what ISP you use to connect to the internet.

Yes, NYUHome has a web-based email client built into it, but if you prefer, you can use Eudora, Outlook Express, or any other desktop email program to check your NYU email. For instructions, please see the Email Configuration page. Note for Pine Users: You cannot telnet and use Pine to read your NYU email. If you use AOL, minimize your AOL window and start Internet Explorer to go to your Palomar College e-mail account. For security purposes some suspicious files are not allowed in our system. These include files that have an .exe extension. Make sure to check the Instructions.
