Ideally, surround speakers should be either wall-mounted or stand-mounted to either side of the couch or primary listening area, from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears, and slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish. Axiom's Quadpolar surrounds are especially versatile and can yield excellent performance with stand or wall-mounting to the rear as well as at side locations. If you are concerned about your own hearing you should make a time at an audiology clinic to have a hearing test.  The VIHSP equipment is not suitable for adults.

Not to worry, most of us can’t. There always seem to be a rack or doorway in the way. The good thing is that poor placement can be somewhat overcome by proper system level calibration. Just remember that you will get two separate soundfields if the rear speakers are placed too far away from the engineer (not good).

Mounting the screen can be a tricky matter, as it depends on (a) whether or not the system is meant to replace the vehicle’s existing audio system and (b) the amount of available space in the dash. Our 7” touch screen is not exactly double-DIN, but close enough to be able to fit without too much effort. Larger dashboards will be able to accommodate larger screens, but as each vehicle is different, we recommend consulting with an installer who has experience in these matters.

Reason 1: Distortion causes the power spectrum to shift upwards in frequency. A bass note, when distorted, will have lots of high frequency energy. This will cause mid-ranges and tweeters to fry, if the amplifier is operating full range. It doesn't harm woofers, necessarily. Reason 2: Distortion causes the average power to be much higher. Typically, a music signal that never clips has an average power level of 1/4 the peak power level for even the most compressed speed metal or pop.

It is relatively easy to connect a HSU subwoofer to certain computer sound cards. These sound cards have a dedicated subwoofer output. Without a subwoofer output on the card, it is still possible to hook up a VTF or STF-3 subwoofer, since these subwoofers have stereo inputs. Use a Radio Shack splitter/adapter (one 1/8-inch stereo male to two 1/8-inch stereo female). Take the stereo 1/8-inch output from the computer sound card.

For especially loud conversations, ChatterBlocker may be more effective over headphones. However, prolonged headphone listening can be uncomfortable and can cause hearing fatigue. Often, ChatterBlocker can be surprisingly effective over speakers at low to moderate levels, without disturbing your neighbors.
