Naked mole-rats cannot be kept as pets. They must live in large colonies, and they have fairly strict temperature and humidity requirements. They are high-maintenance animals and can live from ten to 30 years. Removing them from the wild in Africa is expensive, risky, and disruptive to the habitats of naked mole-rats and other animals. Naked mole-rats are kept and bred in highly controlled enclosures in some universities and zoos. Under no circumstances should they be kept as pets.

Naked mole-rats are found in the semi-arid grassy regions of Eastern Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia).

Naked mole-rats are about seven centimeters (3 inches) long and weigh 30 to 70 grams (1 to 2.4 ounces).

In the wild, they eat tubers that they dig into from their tunnels. Some of the tubers can grow to 100 pounds!

Naked mole-rats are rodents that live underground in eastern Africa. All other species of mole-rats live in Africa and the Middle East. Mole-rats are not considered pests. If you have moles (which are insectivores, not rodents) in your yard, you might wish to consult a plant specialist.

The average lifespan of a pet rat is between 2 and 3 years. However, genetics, husbandry and love will ultimately determine how long your pets live. Animals bred from healthy parents will live longer than those bred from weak and sickly animals, and animals fed a healthy diet and kept in clean cages using the proper bedding will live longer than those fed junk food who live in dirty cages on pine or cedar. Love and attention can sometimes play a big role in how long your rat will live.

TOMCAT MOLE KILLER has been designed to be exclusively placed/used underground. When placed properly, the bait has been shown to not act as an attractant to pets. The active ingredient in TOMCAT MOLE KILLER has been shown to have little or no secondary poisoning effect. Thus, pets should not be at risk if they consume a mole that has eaten TOMCAT MOLE KILLER.

I would advise against this. Hamsters are very territorial. I have heard stories of hamsters who immediately attacked a mouse or rat when they met.

They have very little hair, just a few hairs on their feet, some whiskers, and a little hair in their mouths.

You should never do anything that makes you uncomfortable. Some types of massage such as Shiatsu can be done with the client fully clothed. Talk to your therapist and address the issues that may make you feel uncomfortable.

In brief, rat owners bring their rats to be seen by the public. Rats are shown in suitable tanks. During the day, the judges choose the best rats and award prizes. Rat shows are also social occasions where friendly rat owners share their common interest. Many shows will have a variety of other activities taking place – these are usually listed on the show calendar.

with any pet, it is always best to research the particular requirements of the animal in question. Your local library and the internet can provide a wealth of information on issues such as housing, breeding and health. Rats can take up a lot of your time and have different needs and requirements to other small pets such as gerbils or hamsters. There are several books available, a number of which we have reviewed in our 'Product Reviews' section, although most tend to be out of date.

The electrologist should check insurance coverage and state regulations before treating a mole. A physician's permission should also be obtained to protect the health of the patient. These precautions are presently necessary because treating moles is still controversial. There is no recorded damage due to treatment of a mole, and some insurance companies now cover this treatment.
