UV (ultra violet) is a portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. UV can not be seen by the human eye, but when it falls on certain materials it may cause them to become fluorescent (ie. glow) and reflect visible light back to our eyes. The following colours are sensitive to UV Light: White, Pink, Yellow and Orange will glow under UV Lighting. Red, Purple, Green, Blue and Black will not glow under UV light.

It is a fact that prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light will fade colours. However, this requires considerable cumulative amounts of UV light. Because a home UVB unit is used relatively infrequently, (as compared to exterior paint exposed to daily sunlight), our practical experience is that colour fading is not an issue. I have never seen a cockroach glow under black light however other pests in more tropical or desert regions, the scorpions, do glow fluorescently. Scorpions are well known for this behavior.
