Insure tight contact between the valve face and the valve seat to seal the combustion chamber and provide proper heat transfer from the valve to the cylinder head. It is advisable to use a residual current device (RCD) whenever possible but particularly in wet or damp locations such as outdoors. Poppet valves are many times heavier than those springy little reed-valves and would therefore open and close far too slowly.
