Yes. Positioning it somewhere separately from the symbol requires a scanner operator to search for the ISBN in those situations where key-entry is necessary and valuable seconds are lost in the transaction. The file we prepare from our software will include the ISBN.

Your barcode number should be listed on the mousepad that we sent when you first started (assuming Antioch students receive the welcome packet). If you did not receive a mouse pad then you'll have to contact the library, as only they can look it up. Just tell them that you are an online student and were not issued an ID card. A bar code is a reference number on a product that a computer uses to look up associated records, which contain descriptive data and other pertinent information. For example, the bar codes found on items in retail stores don't contain the price or description of the food item; instead the bar code has a 12 digit "product number" in it.

BarCode is an automatic identification technology. It allows data to be collected accurately and rapidly. A BarCode symbol consists of a series of parallel, adjacent bars and spaces. Predetermined width patterns are used to code actual data into the symbol. To read information contained in a BarCode symbol, a scanning device, such as a light pen (or wand), is moved across the symbol from one side to the other.

Obtain an ISBN / Bookland number from www.isbn.org, let's assume you received "0-672-32230-7". Select Code EAN 13 in the codetype and enter "978" (that's the standard ISBN prefix used to distinguish book from grocery products etc.) into the data field for your code and append your number. Leave out the last digit and the hyphens. The text should then read: "978067232230". The price is encoded in the 5 digit Add On and usually left padded with "0".

International Standard Book Number. Each book, and each edition of a given title, has a unique ISBN. The ISBN can be found on a barcode on the book's rear cover, and printed on the copyright page near the front of the book.
