What kinds of strings are used on Ovation Guitars?

Ovation Guitars
We use D'Addario EXP16 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze strings on our guitars. Another string we like is the Adamas 1818 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze. You can use whatever string suits your playing style. Heavier or lighter strings might require a truss rod adjustment. D'Addario Pro Arte (EJ46) hard tension strings are used on USA-made Ovation nylon string guitars. We also like the Adamas 4444 or the Savarez Alliance high tension.

What kind of strings have you always used?

The Official Carol Kaye Web Site
I've always used medium-gauge flatwound strings since I play exclusively with a hard pick (with a flat wrist, not like guitar players). And I always use a doubled up piece of felt muting on top of the strings just over the bridges to dampen the over- and under-tones for a cleaner recorded sound too (good for live work also).

gt;Is it fact or superstition that strings (all kinds) have memory?

The Harp Police Gazette
We're glad you asked. Yes, every note played into the harp is remembered by the string and that is why, when you play that string a second time, it "recalls" the previous time it was played and behaves in much the same way that it did the time before.

How many strings?

alt.guitar.bass - THE WEBSITE!
I've got to be careful here..... Four and, more recently, five string basses have become the most common instruments. However, there are many people that use 6 and 7 string basses (I've seen a 9 string, so there are many varieties not mentioned here). None are inherently better than the others. I'm starting to sound like a broken record, but try as many as you can and decide for yourself.

I understand that all Martin guitars used to be made with Brazilian Rosewood. Is that true?

Martin Guitar FAQ
Yes, at one time all of Martin's regular styles were made of Brazilian rosewood. The Style 17 was the first to use mahogany for the sides and back. This change occurred about 1909 and was documented in the catalog of that year. Style 18 followed suit in 1917 according to a dealer notice dated January 1 of that year. Brazilian rosewood continued to be used for all instruments in Style 21 and was the next style up from the 18 at that particular period of time.

Why do some guitars sound good and others don't?

Frequently Asked Questions
It comes down to four things: Wood, Electronics, Paint, and Hardware. Changing any one of these things on your guitar can yield good results, but they all play a big part in the tone of your instrument. A guitar made with quality tone woods, hardware, and electronics, thats finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, will always sound better than a guitar made with cheap laminated woods, hardware, and electronics thats finished in polyuthothane.
