Good old Mother Nature 'built' Haystack Rock. The rock part of Haystack Rock is actually lava from a volcano that erupted millions and millions of years ago on the borders of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Molten lava flowed seaward down what was once the Columbia River Gorge. When it hit soft sediment on its journey west, the lava went underground. When it came to a vent or soft spot (like it did here in Cannon Beach) it "popped up.

Most of the birds that you see at Haystack Rock only live there in spring and summer. They are: Western Gulls, Tufted Puffins, Pelagic Cormorants, Pigeon Guillemots, Black Oystercatchers. Check out our Haystack Habitat Page to learn more!

The Rock Church started in October 1999. It was birthed from its "parent" church in Fort Collins/Loveland, Colorado. At that time, there were five families who moved from Colorado to help start the church.

I was a commercial fisherman with a crew of divers on my urchin/scallop dive boat, living on it in Tennants Harbor throughout the winter. My boat sank and I was in 40 degree water for over 3 hours before a rescue helicopter found me. White Star publicly announced their intention of building the Titanic in 1907 during the maiden voyage of RMS Lusitania, owned by their archrival the Cunard Line. This was done in an attempt to get some of the publicity being lavished on the Cunarder and draw attention to the new, larger Titanic, to follow five years later.

After the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco claimed that Hetch Hetchy was the only good damsite to provide water to the city and the San Francisco peninsula. Other equally appropriate dam sites outside Yosemite National Park were rejected. President Wilson signed the Raker Act in 1913, allowing the dam to be built. John Muir led the fight to preserve Hetch Hetchy Valley. Dozens of organizations and newspapers nationwide opposed the dam, but they were defeated by San Francisco.

Even though we're positive that they received it, the Rock Hall Foundation has yet to respond to any of our actions.

Our pastors have been trained for years through formal and informal leadership training classes within local GCAC churches in Colorado, Utah and Iowa. GCAC also practices apprentice-style leadership training, which provides much hands-on preparation for pastoral ministry.
