Screw Clips twist into the foam-board insulation. The tubing snaps into the screw clips. Then, wire mesh (remesh) and/or rebar is laid over the tubing. When you pour the concrete, pull the wire mesh to the middle of the slab. Be careful not to pull the tubing up with the remesh when you pour. Many people prefer to use fiber-reinforced concrete so they don't have to install wire mesh.

Modern reels are a lot easier to use than old ones. There is a learning curve, but it's pretty easy. Most current conventional reels have an anti-backlash mechanism, a brake, that slows the spool as it turns over the course of a cast. This will save you a lot of grief, though you still have to use your reel hand thumb. Older reels, like the Penn Squidder, require more skill to use. There are a few modern reels without a brake, and we'll get to those.

Historically the difference between a bolt and a screw was that the screw was threaded to the head whereas the bolt had a plain shank.
