When a lens is polarized, it blocks scattered wavelengths of light, reducing and absorbing multiple reflections from other surfaces by canceling light that vibrates in one plane. Polarized lenses are very useful for activities on the water such as boating and fishing.

Because polarized lenses may make it impossible to see sheets of water or ice, they are not the ideal choice for driving under wet or icy conditions, or some skiing activities.

Radio signals travel polarized or oriented vertically, horizontally, circularly or in combinations of these. In cellular and most commercial applications signals are vertically polarized. Your cellular mobile antenna on the car is vertically polarized, for example. Your Yagi must be installed with its elements vertically polarized too.

The polarization potential, also called the 'electropolarization potential', is the next term (beyond the electrostatic potential) in the expansion of the energy interaction of a point positive charge with the nuclei and electrons of a molecule. Sunglasses that markedly reduce the UV-exposure of the eyes will reduce UV damage, such as cataracts. Just make sure to check that they provide adequate protection from UV light and are free of distortions. You can also take them to your eyecare professional to have the lenses metered to determine the amount of UV that passes through the lenses. That way you can be sure that you are getting the most from your sunglasses.

Children are at particular risk because they're in the sun much more than adults, and their eyes are more sensitive as well. UV damage is cumulative over a person's lifetime, which means you should begin protecting your child's eyes as soon as possible. Most parents would not allow their children to go outside without shoes, yet many seem unaware of the need to protect their children's eyes.

There is a benefit to wearing UV protective lenses--wearing them may protect against cataract formation. Clear lenses with UV protection may offer greater protection than dark lenses because they allow the eyes to be exposed to more light. This causes greater constriction of the pupil which lets less light enter the eyes.

Polarized lenses are designed to eliminate the glare that is responsible for eye fatigue and decreased vision. Tifosi polarized polycarbonate lenses offer exceptional strength compared to acrylic polarized lenses. So how does it work? When light is reflected from shiny surfaces, it is usually horizontally polarized. The horizontal polarized light is blocked by vertically oriented polarizers in the lenses.

Dark glasses or nonprescription glasses with tinted lenses are not acceptable unless you need them for medical reasons. A medical certificate may be required.

This is the conversion of light from one axis of a polarization maintaining fiber into the orthogonal axis. It is caused by local stress induced birefringence that shifts the fast and slow axes or in the case of a coupler, a misalignment of the polarization axes in the coupling region. Cascaded components with cross coupling used with long coherence length sources can display amplitude modulation unless they are thermally controlled.

Epi-polarization is a technique used for the very sensitive light microscopical observation of metal particles. Where bright field microscopy depends on contrast levels in discriminating signals, epi-polarization works differently: provided particles are large enough individual particles will be observed. So in fact you are evaluating your labeling results on the same basis as with an electron microscope by looking at individual particles.

Most Point-to-Multipoint Wireless LAN systems use V-Pol (vertical polarization). This allows the use of inexpensive vertical omnidirectional wireless antennas. Higher-density areas are beginning to use more H-Pol (horizontal polarization) antennas for PtMP. Point-to-Point (backhaul) systems may use either vertical or horizontal polarization as long the same polarization is used at each end.

Normally, a wireless LAN or wireless ISP has a set of channels or frequency sets that are either vertically-polarized or horizontally-polarized, or some of each. Since the Circular Polarized wireless antenna responds (theoretically) equally to either polarization at a level of 3 dB down from maximum signal, there is not much reason to add CP to a system that already has vertical, horizontal or both polarizations. This will not gain additional spectrum for the wireless ISP.
