I created 95% of the graphics the other 5 percent are custom graphics I had created since I like a little variety. Still 100% of the graphics on this site are copyrighted & Licensed for this site.

I use GNU Emacs as my editor. I have used an extension for it called Emacs Muse, which can create html files from normal text files with a very simple markup, to create most of this website. The corner decorations and the bamboo background are from the Open Clip Art Library. Screenshots from video games are from various web sources (or in some cases taken by me).

Practice. I've never taken any real art classes that actually taught me anything at all, so all of my artistic ability is pure talent, experimentation, and practice. Granted, I'm not that great of an artist, but I'm not out to be the best at it or anything. I just draw what I like and what I enjoy, in the style that I prefer.

The best combo for learning 3D is a 4D and a flight sim. Burn as much fuel as you can, and fly the sim when it rains. If it snows, get some skis and get outside! There is no substitute for practice. You've heard it before, and it's true. It's also true I broke about 100 props to learn to torque roll.

The comp.graphics.algorithms FAQ contains a lot of 3D graphics information that isn't specific to OpenGL. excellent general computer graphics text is Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice, Second Edition, by James Foley, et al. ISBN 0-201-12110-7. It has been mentioned that this book is out of print and that a third edition is planned for release in January 2001. However, some online book retailers still seem to have it for sale. Try amazon.com.

We use an overhead view because it's better for seeing who is in your adventuring party. Smaller graphics mean that you can see farther and more people, and Clan Lord tends to have lots of people playing together. (Why else be online?) And tiny graphics look better hand-drawn than 3D.

In creating this game, we decided that instead of focusing on creating pretty graphics, we would instead focus on creating a game which was fun to play. Also, since we do coding for this game in our spare time, we decided to try and limit the complexity of the task we were undertaking. A third reason is that none of the current development team is familiar with either of the two dominant graphics APIs: DirectX and OpenGL.

Surprisingly there is no simple way in Windows to check the 3D graphics capability of a PC. The best way we have found is to Start / Run / DXDIAG and view the Display information reported. If the Device name contains nVidia GeForce or ATI Radeon and the memory is 32MB or greater then the 3D graphics aspect should be satisfied. We have received feedback that the Intel 915 (with 128MB of shared memory) also performs satisfactory.

I created most of the graphics (eg, the bullets and textures) using the Macromedia web graphics program Fireworks. The South Park caricature was created at Janine Norn's website. The Seti@home and Virtual a&r cartoons were drawn on paper with an ink pen and coloured pencils and then scanned in. I do a lot of image conversion and resizing using the excellent freeware image browser and converter Irfanview.

They aren't as complex as they seem, even to get the 3D effects using a formula as simple as multiplying fractions, something a 4th-grader could do. There are several variants of the color-averaging formula originally discovered to do anti-aliasing and transparency in MSPaint since the program didn't allow it (and pretty much still doesn't as of mid-2006).

Unfortunately, I don't know. However, I really don't think there will be any problems unless they use very specific timing functions which are incompatible with the Game Framework. The Game Framework gives you things like windowed mode, icons, game structure sound, sprites, buttons etc. These things are totally separate from 3D so there shouldn't be any clash. You should be able to use the Game Framework and call the 3D engine when it's needed for logic and drawing.

Not anymore. I started out doing that in the mid 1980's and did so for many years. At that time there really wasn't any software capable of doing what needed to be done so I always found myself writing the software and tools to support the production role. After many years I decided that I liked development a lot more than the production side and focussed on that exclusively.

I am an independant artist for hire, modeling for animation, stills, video games etc. But I have to warn you, 3D art this complex can be very expensive and typically only large commerical firms can afford it. Were I to perform all the requests that I recieved for free, I would never have any time to myself B). As much as I like creating, I'm limited by time and cost.

A high-performance graphics card will certainly help. The underlying system spends a lot of time blitting 32-bit RGB bitmaps to the screen. But no 3D capabilities of the card will be used.
