Our tours begin in June and end in October. Whales are feeding in the Gulf of Maine during this entire period. Many species of migratory cetaceans begin to arrive once the krill and other foods become plentiful in the spring, typically by April. Our tours are not limited by the availability of whales but by cold weather and changing ocean conditions. So actually, the entire season offers a great opportunity to see whales.

Whales begin their Northbound migration Alaska in February with the the cows and calves beginning around April and continue their trek through May. If you visit Alaska between June and early September, you may see Humpback and Minke Whales, Orcas, Pacific White-Sided Dolphins, Dall's and Harbour Porpoises. Our success rates vary throughout the year. Southern Resident Orcas are sighted consistently April through November. Humpbacks have been sighted consistently for the past five years September through January. Gray whales are occassional visitors throughout the year as they transit seasonally. Based on our two decades of experience with whalewatching and whale research, we've found that all times of day are good for watching whales. They appear to be active throughout the day. More than time of day, the ability to see whales depends on conditions such as wind speed, sun glare or sea state. When you go whalewatching depends on your preferences. On Inside Passage trips (Wildlife Discovery & Orca Humpback Odysseys), we see whales a number of times on most trips from both camps and kayaks. On any of these occasions we may have very close encounters. For our Wild Orca Adventures, we expect to see whales on average at least once a day. Some days we may see them five or six times. Ideally, orchids should be repotted immediately after flowering. Any plant that is potted in decomposed, packed bark should be repotted immediately. Most orchids need to be repotted once every 1 to 2 years. The bark or moss that the orchids are grown in gradually deteriorates.
