They work 24 hours on shift and then off 48 hours. There are three shifts which are called A, B, C shifts. Simple Answer - Because they can. Federal Labor laws, which regulates when you have to pay overtime for working more than 40 hours a week, exempts firefighters. And are you willing to change them for a month or two? If you're regularly away from home more than nine hours a day you'll have to invest in a dog walking service or neighbor to keep your new dog from bursting during the day. Even though greyhounds are much more tolerant than most breeds, they need daily attention and time.

Most laboratories require attendance during usual daytime business hours in order for appropriate supervision to occur.
