I am now selling the best full spectrum light bulbs on the market. You can grow in the dark with 3 of these lights or you can just use one in a goose-neck floor lamp or clip-on fixture for supplemental lighting in the fall and winter months. The grass grows fastest if it has 14 hours of light so you have to add light in the winter. Please believe me, you do not need light at every level. The light would be too close to encourage growth.

I actually raise my Paphs on tables with humidity trays along an expansive run of windows (they're almost like a greenhouse) which have semi-shaded southern exposure which I'm told is too much light. However, I have not had problems with "sunburn". The Phrags (with the exception of the terrestrial caudatum types) are grown in trays which collect the irrigation water and allow the Phrags to "soak" for a day or two before the water evaporates; THEY LOVE THIS. Wattage is a measurement of the electricity usage of a bulb. Lumens is a measurent of the total light output of a bulb. The efficiency of a bulb is calculated by comparing the light output to the energy usage. The efficiency of a bulb is similar for light bulbs of the same type, so you can expect that by switching from a 100W to a 150W regular incandescent bulb that you will get about 50% more light. The ETS Cell within NightStar can power more than one LED, and with each LED added, the light output will increase. However, power consumption will also increase with each LED added to the system. Consequently, the duration of light output obtained from a fully charged capacitor will diminish, thereby requiring NightStar to be shaken more frequently. An incandescent bulb is highly inefficient and requires 10 times more energy than an LED. The capacitor in NightStar can only power a filament light bulb for a few seconds. By comparison, the energy stored in a battery is great enough to power inefficient devices for several hours. However, when a battery's energy is depleted, it either has to be discarded or recharged. Several capacitors were studied during the development of NightStar. NightStar currently uses a 1-Farad, 5.5V capacitor. A capacitor with an energy storage capability 3 times greater than this is also available (3.3-Farad, 5.5V). However, it would require 3 times longer to fully charge this capacitor. A battery will power the LED in NightStar for several hours at its' maximum light output (the same light output obtained when the capacitor is fully charged and the light is first turned on). Additionally, the ETS Cell in NightStar can be used to charge a battery as well as a capacitor. However, the energy storage capability of a battery is many times greater than the capacitor used in NightStar. You'll need either an 1/8" or 1/4" (depending on the size of the headphones plug) closed-tip, open ring stereo jack. Follow the schematic shown below for the main speaker to be silenced when the headphones are plugged into the circuit. The 10 ohm resistance between the headphone jack sleeve and ground will reduce the headphone output level.
